Welcome to St Kilda Ballet School

Our logo is "St Kilda Ballet School... for children who love to dance"

and this is what we are all about. We offer classes to any child who

shows an interest in learning to dance and our priority is ensuring

that every student, from our youngest preschoolers to our senior dancers, feels happy, safe and encouraged within our dance community.

Creativity and an appreciation for the Arts are introduced from an early age. We do not enter competitions; performance opportunities are in the form of our annual Choreography Showcases and full-scale end of year Concerts. These are original story ballets, designed to highlight our students and celebrate their learning and achievements.

Helen Guscott RAD RTS AISTD

Registered Teacher,

Royal Academy of Dance (since 2001)

My Story

I grew up in London and relocated to the beautiful city of Melbourne in 2007, having spent 9 years as Associate Principal of the Denise Winmill School of Dance in Surrey, UK.

My love of teaching ballet began at the early age of 14 years, when I had a Saturday job assisting my ballet teacher, Denise Winmill, who was a teacher at the Royal Ballet School and an examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance.

In 1993, I was lucky enough to be the student demonstrator for Dame Antoinette Sibley, as she created the Grade 8 syllabus. I feel privileged to have learnt the Grade 7 and 8 syllabus directly from the creators and demonstrated the work across the UK during its launch and still love teaching the syllabus today.

I graduated from the three-year Teacher Training Programme of the Royal Academy of Dance in 2001 and furthered my qualifications with the RAD Teaching Diploma and becoming an Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (Classical Branch).

Dance teaching has been my profession for over 20 years and I have enjoyed teaching many styles alongside classical ballet over this time, including Jazz, Tap, Neo-Classical, Zumba (adults), Modern Jive (adults) and Teacher Training in various styles.

I have trained and entered students for RAD Examinations at all levels and have worked as a Senior Ballet teacher / Head of Ballet at well-respected schools across Melbourne over many years. I am proud that every student that I have entered for RAD exams has received either a Merit or Distinction.

SKBS was founded in 2014 to provide the local community with a family-friendly dance school which promotes  inclusivity, creativity and of course, safe practice in addition to providing quality, well-structured classes in a positive learning environment.
